Instructions: Take some time to reflect on the following questions individually or as a family. Use this worksheet as a tool to explore and articulate the reasons behind your decision to homeschool and to develop a deeper understanding of your “why.”
Reflection on Values and Beliefs:

Identifying Goals and Aspirations:
- What are your long-term goals for your children’s education and upbringing?
- Consider the skills, knowledge, and values you hope to instill in your children through homeschooling.
- Reflect on any specific academic, personal, or character development goals you have for your children.
Exploring Motivations:
- What prompted your decision to homeschool? Reflect on the factors that led you to choose this educational path.
- Consider the strengths and weaknesses of traditional schooling that influenced your decision.
- Reflect on any personal experiences or stories that have shaped your perspective on education and homeschooling.
Assessing Family Dynamics:
- How does homeschooling align with your family’s lifestyle and dynamics?
- Reflect on the roles and responsibilities of each family member in the homeschooling journey.
- Consider how homeschooling impacts family relationships, communication, and daily routines.
Clarifying Educational Philosophy:
- What is your philosophy of education? How does it inform your approach to homeschooling?
- Reflect on your views on topics such as child-led learning, experiential education, and academic rigor.
- Consider any educational theories or methodologies that resonate with your family’s values and goals.
Articulating Your “Why”:
- Based on your reflections, articulate your family’s “why” for homeschooling in a clear and concise statement.
- Summarize the values, goals, motivations, and beliefs that underpin your decision to homeschool.
- Consider how your “why” will guide your homeschooling journey and shape your approach to teaching and learning.
Reflection Questions:
